Vancouver, British Columbia June 22 2011

In Vancouver it was raining all day and it looked like it had been for a week straight. Nonetheless, we still spent the day in Stanley Park on a horse drawn carriage and  then traveled to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. The tour guide driving our carriage explained Vancouver's history during our one hour ride.  The Suspension Bridge is suspended 450 feet across big evergreen trees and 230 feet above the creek. It was a thrill to walk across the suspension bridge as it swayed; my little sister did not even make it all the way across as she was too afraid. We missed Grouse Mountain because of the rain, but it going to be an amazing 2 hours hike up the mountain (mother natures stair master) or as the locals call it, the grouse grind mountain run. We saw many houses made out of wood and many harbors.

Next we watched the Vancouver Canucks beat the Canadiens 8-2. The Canadiens were crushed again in the last three games against all Canadian teams. After we packed up for the seven and a half hour plane ride back home. My family had a great family road trip and I hope our next one will be a better one.

Edmonton, Alberta June 20-21 2011

In Edmonton it seemed the same as Regina. The same food, weather and city, but the only big difference was Edmonton owns an amazing mall. It has its own hotel, water park and roller coaster. My family spent one day in the water park and one day shopping. We went on all the water slides and stayed there for 9 hours. My favourite water slide was the far right one that looks like it goes on for ever and it does. There is also a huge wave pool that's really deep, the only difference from the ocean is that it's not salt water.

After we went shopping and found great sales. Unfortunately, we didn't buy a lot of things because we did not want to carry everything around.   The experience of shopping in North America's largest mall was unforgettable. We had to leave the mall early to watch the Edmonton game against Montreal (Edmonton won 3-1). Edmonton was down by 1 in the third period and came back to win by 2 goals. Now I'm packed up and ready to go to Vancouver.

Regina, Saskatchewan June 19 2011

In Regina it was very hot compared to Montreal and Halifax. It was also sunnier too, it was so sunny we had to put on some sunscreen(I guess I know why it's called the sunniest place in Canada now). We had some locally grown products like corn, wheat, potatoes, tomatoes, chicken, beef and ham for our meals. We visited the Wascanna Centre and Royal Canadian Mounted Police Heritage Centre.

The Heritage Centre gave a slice of Canadas Western history and the sunset ceremony was beautiful. Next we went out to eat some Western food in the Heritage. The pancakes were delicious, but I like Eastern food better. Then we went back to our hotel to get ready for the biggest mall in Canada.

Montreal, Quebec June 17-18 2011

Once we walked off the boat in Montreal we were exhausted from traveling so we went directly to our hotel which took two hours since it was so crowded. While we drove to our hotel I saw a lot of stores, it didn't look like there were any factories in this city.  My mother was excited to travel to Old Montreal which  is very European in character with cobblestone streets, a cafĂ© culture, and historic buildings.  We stayed in our hotel for a day to rest and relax. After that day we went out for lunch to eat some poutine. I felt confused because I didn't understand anything that people were saying, but good thing it's a multicultural city. I didn't like the poutine because it had cheese on it and I just wanted french fries. After we tried to go to Montreal Botanical Gardens but we couldn't from all the traffic, so we decided to go early to the hockey game.

We went  so early that we were able to see the players warm up. The home team Montreal Canadiens lost 4-0 to Toronto Maple Leafs. The Hockey game was a blow out, Montreal was crushed. When we came home, we wanted to watch T.V, but we couldn't because they were talking french, so we had to watch the cooking channel that was the only channel speaking English. Then we went to bed excited for Regina and the Royal Mounted Canadian Police!

Halifax, Nova Scotia June 16 2011

When my family arrived at Halifax it was much colder than St. Catharines so we went right to our hotel to change into warmer clothes. We had cereal for breakfast that we packed and drove to Pier 21 and Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. I liked the Citadel because it explained the growth of the military, the living and working conditions of the military, and the role of Halifax as an important British naval and military. After we looked at the ocean and harbors while we ate snacks to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

We saw the fisherman return to shore with the fresh crab just caught that day. When we were in the museum we learned new things about the Atlantic, like Nova Scotia is a peninsula. Next we had dinner, we had many different sea foods like salmon, lobster, shrimp and crab. We ordered a lot of sea food because it was so cheap and delicious.  The fresh seafood alone was worth the trip to Halifax.  Then we went to bed because we had to wake up early to travel  to Montreal and say good bye to Halifax.

The Start of my Family Road Trip June 15 2011

I will be writing a blog about my family's summer road trip across Canada. We will be starting in Halifax, Nova Scotia and then we will travel to the other side of Canada  which is Vancouver, British Columbia. We will be making stops along the way at these cities; Montreal, Quebec, Regina, Saskatchewan and Edmonton, Alberta. I'll be blogging at the end of my day to explain what was the most enjoyable and noticeable experiences in these 5 mayor cities in Canada. We will cruise on a boat to Halifax then to Montreal by the St. Lawrence River.  After Montreal,  we will take a ride on the VIA railroad to go to Regina and Edmonton.  My family will leave Edmonton and fly over the Rocky Mountains to Vancouver and finally fly home to St. Catharines.
